Biography

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed’ C.S Lewis Each member has a story to tell, a vast and interesting background full of adventures, musical explorations and crushing disappointments. These experiences have become part of Brighlight City, they have powered the band’s success and influenced the music written and played. The band itself was formed in the early stages of 2010. Members were brought together by long time friendships and brotherhood. Jonathan and Jamie have known each other since birth and through the many years to follow have maintained a closeness only separated by 12,000 miles when Jonathan moved to Australia. Early indications suggested that these two were destined for great things. Jamie and Jonathan have successfully formed a radio station and a lucrative ghost hunting business. Justin, Jamie’s brother has always been a figurehead for the band, a conceptualist and great modern day artist. He has helped solidify the line up through constant optimism, a trait passed down through his Roman heritage. The rhythm section, consisting of Joe and Daniel, another long term friendship, sowed in Carshalton where they met through free form jazz and reggae dub step appreciation groups. These two young men have an almost psychic connection and are currently writing a book on syncopation. Over the past year, the band has developed and grown. Gigs have become a showcase of cathartic energy, controlled chaos and ethereal landscapes. A hat tip to bands such as At the Drive-In, Million Dead, Mogwai, Idlewild and Yourcodenameis:Milo. The songs played are individual concepts each with a dark cutting undertone. In a music scene inundated with stagnant acts and ‘cool kats’, this band will gnaw at your ears and puncture your ear drums and looking cool as hell while doing it. 2011 ended with a flurry of activity, releasing singles, signing a PR deal with independent company All About Promo, endless gigs around the country, signing a publishing deal with The Animal Farm, writing new songs, making new fans, receiving radio play on local and national radio (BBC London, BBC 6 Music Introducing, Absolute Radio, BFBS radio, Xfm and Singapore Airlines Rock show... to name a few) and writing a soundtrack for British Indie film "Big Fat Gypsy Gangster"....... The band hit the ground running in 2012 with 2 singles being released in the first half of the year, making the list of New acts in the MTV Brand Ew for 2012 list, being chosen to play the Hard Rock Rising shows, playing more shows around the country, writing and recording new songs......
